How we work with sources and data

All nine initial records were checked against Crossref metadata and DOI entries in the current public ORCID profile. Numerical data come from the publisher texts and tables identified beside each chart. Bibliographic pages are not inferred from manuscript identifiers.

Surveys record self-reported behaviour; associations do not automatically identify causal effects. Units, periods and denominators must be retained. Kg/household differs from kg/collector, visitor shares differ from visit frequencies, and household replacement values differ from turnover.

The CZK 7.3bn headline is a rounded editorial conversion of two published indicative household-harvest values: (199.89 + 90.80) million EUR × CZK 25/EUR = CZK 7,267.25 million. The amounts and reference conversion of 25 are taken from Forests 2026, Table 7 and Section 2.4. This is not a separately estimated crown-denominated value or the exact annual Czech National Bank exchange rate. It excludes game meat and does not express the full value of forests, turnover or net returns.

The stories are original editorial syntheses with linked sources, not full translations of scientific papers. The herb story’s empirical section uses the public abstract and explicitly separates editorial reflections.

ABOUT THE RESEARCH
